ARDS Alliance Sumita Dixit Recovery Fund

The ARDS Alliance is proud to announce the ARDS Alliance Sumita Dixit Recovery Fund.

This Financial Assistance Fund supports patients that have been diagnosed and are actively being treated for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). The fund supports patients who are diagnosed and treated for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Each patient must meet income guidelines and provide diagnosis documentation confirming the patient’s diagnosis to finalize the application. The fund provides a $500 grant, once per 12-month period, to cover the out- of-pocket expenses associated with transportation, lodging, housing, utilities, childcare, loss wages and nutritional needs related to patients’ treatments.

Sumita Dixit, a founding board member and champion of the work of the ARDS Alliance organization, passed away due to ARDS complications on October 14, 2022. Sumita’s immense contributions were vast and unwavering.

As a diplomat living in the Netherlands with her husband and two young children, Sumita was an ARDS and ECMO survivor who was grateful for every moment she was given and used her experience to help others in similar circumstances: improving people’s understanding of trauma and increasing awareness by medical professionals of what critical care patients need. Her empathy and advocation for others was not only stoic but demonstrated the utmost strength. The loss that we feel is immeasurable, but so is the love that she left behind. This program directly goes to our mission to improve the quality of life for ALL those affected by ARDS. We hope that these grants will help, in a small way to minimize the financial stress associated with an ARDS diagnosis.
